Re: Difference between Oracle Internet Directory & MS Active Directory

Hi Chinna,

AD, OID and ODSEE are 3 different directories, initially they are from different vendors.

All the 3 directory servers have different advantages, disadvantages and architecture.

AD is from Microsoft which by default comes with Windows Servers. Maximum customers use this product  for Windows system Authentication based on domain. You cann't install AD on linux/Unix because it won't support.

OID is product from oracle, OID may be out of support in near future because oracle release new directory that is OUD (Oracle Unified Directory) which has more advanced features than OID

ODSEE is initially from Sun ( Sun DSEE), After sun was acquired by oracle it was released as ODSEE.

All 3 directories are good for user stores.

Thanks and Regards,
Chinni

Hi...
Is it certain that OID will be out of support in the new future?
Is there any reference to this?

Re: Difference between Oracle Internet Directory & MS Active Directory

I posed the same question to Oracle recently and i was told that OID wont be killed at least in the next 5 to 10 years. Apparently, there are many customers out there who are highly dependent on OID. If you need formal reference, reach out to your Oracle sales rep.

Although OID dependency was removed for the new versions on EBS ( EBS 12.2.4 and above) there are many other Enterprise apps such as Oracle Apps which has OID as mandatory directory server to integrate with OAM.
